Poetry: Cinnamon Tingles

1–2 minutes

read

When I shared A Letter to an Older Me, I told you about a new writer’s group that I joined: The Writer’s Library. I LOVE IT. I am learning so much and am growing friendships from talking with other writers outside of the group.

Today, one of our members mentioned a lip balm and the flavor caught my mind and brought it to a playground. Another member shared a few prompts with us and one of them was perfect to me for writing a poem about the lip balm.

Partly for fun. Partly to show my lighter side.

Partly because, seriously, who would ever think to combine lavender and cinnamon in a lip balm?! It’s genius!! (And if you’ve followed me on The Essential Creative for a bit, you already know I LOVE me some essential oils and cinnamon tingles!!!) ]

I hope you smile and giggle like we did as I read it aloud to the group. It could be one of those you-had-to-be-there-moments… you can be the judge of that!

Cinnamon Tingles

I swipe the small yellow and purple tube
across my lips,
excitement growing inside
as I wait for the
tingle to begin.
Lavender to ease my mind,
heal my skin,
reduce my heart to a steady
and relaxed rhythm.
Cinnamon to reduce the inflammation
in my chapped lips,
rough to the touch
and cracking.
I sit still as I embrace the tingling sensation,
like Pop Rocks on my lips.
A welcome sensation;
like remembering the last time we kissed…
how it sent a shiver throughout my body,
except this time
my lip balm remains in my pocket
and you walk away empty handed.

I’d love if you’d share in the comments a time that someone shared a special gift with you and it gave your mind / muse a writer’s playground to venture into.
