For the past three weeks we’ve talked about how you may have arrived at this point and developed your bad procrastination habit. We’ve discussed practical steps you can take to become less overwhelmed and more proactive. Now it’s time to discuss seven tips for maintaining your new proactive lifestyle.
If you haven’t already, it’s time to fully seal this breakup. NO MORE PROCRASTINATING! It’s time to be proactive and live with intentionality. It’s time to be so fully done with procrastination that you no longer thing to put off the things you can do today.
This is your new life and here’s how you maintain it.
You’re going to have to fully commit to this if you want to successfully cut procrastination from your life. Life is too challenging when you’re avoiding the hard things. But you’ve learned now how to be more proactive and you’re fully committed to your change. You’re going to do the work and not stop until it’s done.
Your change from procrastination queen to progress princess won’t happen overnight. If you rely on immediate gratification as a motivator, you’re going to have to learn to wait. Developing a proactive lifestyle means learning to delay gratification and become driven from within to accomplish your goals and do tasks that aren’t always fun and fulfilling. It takes the good and the dreary to become the phenomenal powerhouse that you are.
It’s vital to your success that you surround yourself with support. Stop hanging around with people who keep you down and instead build a support system of people who are supportive, won’t enable you, and cheer for you when you are around and when you aren’t.
As you build your updated social circle, find a buddy, a mentor, or a support group that will help you make and keep the positive change you are after. This will ensure your success as long as you are open and honest with them.
This one may sound obvious since the whole purpose of this challenge is to stop procrastinating. However, putting things off has been normal for you to this point. Don’t put off taking action towards a proactive lifestyle. Remember that you are to make progress not strive for perfection. Starting starting right now is how you begin your life and maintain it.
In addition to beginning your proactive lifestyle right away, you should also start doing actions right away. No more putting things off until later. If it takes less than five minutes, do it right away or during the one- to two-hour window you set aside each day for doing easy tasks. Take care of them today so they don’t follow you into tomorrow.
Your mindset can derail or motivate you. It is often the only thing standing in your way. Once you conquer your mindset about procrastination, all you need are the right tools for your unique circumstances. You will identify those tools more easily when you know that you are going to succeed and that you are capable of handling everything that comes your way.
Once you’ve got your mindset in check, finding what works for you matters most. Your friend’s Pomodoro method may be perfect for her, but dreadful for you. You aren’t going to find success in the same way others do. But when you commit and follow the other tips here, you will identify the tips, tricks, resources, and apps that help you be productive and soar.
Again, because not all of you are Christian, I’ve left this for the end but think that it is the most important step on this journey. Without prayer and meditation, I wouldn’t have been able to kick this habit. Even as I write this today, I want to be taking a nap before a late night of football. But, I made a commitment and so I have prayed for strength and reminded myself that this is important to me. Prayer is the only way I am able to get everything done that I need to do and not push things off anymore.
For the rest of this challenge there are no daily challenges. I will be sharing ideas that may work for you that you can try out if they sound like something you’d like to try. Practical things such as journaling, developing a system, starting right away, remembering your position as a role model, and resources that can help you. Try what works and pass on the things that don’t. The important thing is to ensure within the next 7 days you ensure you are ready to crush the next two months and fully step into your new proactive lifestyle. To help you, here is a bonus for those of you who like essential oils.
