Establishing a strong support system is one of the most important actions you will take during this challenge because it is one that will enrich your life in all areas, not just with stopping procrastination. Having the right people in your corner will ensure you have folks to share your goals and celebrate successes with. Community is necessary to succeed in living a proactive and truly fulfilling life.

Community over Solitude

Choosing the Right Support System

You can go to a 12-step group or local support club, IF THAT WORKS FOR YOU. You can join a church or other religious association if that’s better. Or you can pick and choose and start with one friend and then add more. You have to do what works for you and you will know this by your personality, your communication style, and by how easily you are drained in groups.

Whether your support system is online or in person, one person or a group of people, someone close or someone you go out and meet specifically related to your goals is totally up to you. The point is to think about what you need to be sure you will follow through with what you say you are going to do.

I have several friends who are my strongest support in various areas. One friend is great for reminding me to follow up on my goals and life dreams. Another checks in weekly to ensure I am doing well with my eating and exercise. Another checks in regarding how we are doing with mental health and keeping a low stress lifestyle.

When you find the right partners, the right support, you will know because they balance your strengths, provide an added resource, and celebrate with you when you succeed. They are invested in your success, commit to the process, have a positive mindset, are dependable, and are someone you enjoy. You can trust them, which will allow you to be vulnerable and authentic with them.

When you choose the right person you will see a big difference in your level of success and overall attitude. You will even begin to find people who have the same struggles and invite them into your newfound support system so they can succeed as well.

Quote from Interruptions book. "Our inability to discern who is for us and who is not for us, is sometimes what kills the dream before it manifests.

It’s important that you choose the right people, and only you will know what that means. I know…helpful right? The folks you have been with to date, who have helped you become the procrastinator that you are, are NOT the right folks for you. You have to surround yourself with folks who will not enable you but instead will ensure you are moving forward, taking the right actions, and accomplishing what you set out to accomplish, whether a major dream or a new project.

As you go through the rest of this challenge, ensure that you are thinking about who you can ask to move into your corner and support you with your goal of not procrastinating any longer. Identify people you admire for their zeal about life and who are doing things in their life that show you that they are doers, not just talkers. Once you do this, you will surround yourself with people who won’t allow you to stay where you are but will propel you forward as you open up to them.

A real note I received from someone who helped me at a time when I didn’t see my own strength.
