Mercy Pinder: “The Gift In A Broken Heart” from “The Purpose In My Pain: A 28-Day Devotional Written by Women of Purpose”

This month, I am back to sharing summaries of some of the chapters within The Purpose In My Pain: A 28 Day Devotional Written by Women of Purpose. This anthology is a book of devotions we released with Dr. Tamika Hall of Tamika Ink back in February of this year. Today’s highlight is of a chapter written by one of the co-authors, Mercy Pinder.

“The Gift In A Broken Heart” by Mercy Pinder

In four pages, Mercy shares how she had to make some changes in how she chose and continued with friendships and relationships in her life. She had to make purposeful and heartbreaking choices that meant ending some connections and choosing to honor herself over giving of herself until she was broken. The choice came with heart break and pain, but in the end turned out to be a gift because now she is surrounded with folks who lift her up and honor her.

In her devotion, Mercy reminds us that we must love others AS WE LOVE OURSELVES. That means we have to love ourselves and give ourselves time to heal, grow, and be loved. She had to remember that she was worthy of the same love she gave to others, which meant she had to fully embrace God’s love for her. She shares the scripture that helped her do just that and shares six reflection questions.

Read her chapter and then watch her fireside chat with me as we discuss how God can make even the most painful things work out to be events that we remember as pivotal moments in our lives that led to ultimately good things.
